An explanation on one of the Wa’aaz of  ‘Arif Billah Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Sahab Damat Barkatuhum’, dealing with the aspect of Pride and it’s Remedies … by Moulana Naeem Motala SB

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “He who has even a mustard seed’s worth of pride in his heart will not enter Jannah.”  (Muslim)

Pride is such a sickness … Such an illness … Such a disease … It keeps on returning and it is therefore necessary for a person to check his Nafs all the time and to see whether this Bemari (sickness) is there or if it has disappeared. If we don’t rid our hearts of Pride, then the consequence is that a person will be deprived of the Wilayat of Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala.

All Greatness, Loftiness, Supremacy belongs only to Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala! We are the Makhlooq (creation) of Allah … There is no need for us to behave in a manner in which we think others to be inferior and we think of ourselves to be superior! How can one display pride and arrogance in this world, when the true results will only become manifest on the Day of Qiyaamah?

A person can never become a Sahib-e-Nisbat (A Wali of Allah) until one regards himself to be insignificant … “I am the worst sinner…. I’m trying but I haven’t fulfilled the right of Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala’s worship! I am drenched in sins” …. When a person genuinely and sincerely feels this unworthiness, then in the eyes of Allah he becomes honored! And the person who deems to be something great, then in eyes of Allah he is nothing!

So many years of Ibadat (Zikr, Tilawat, Hajj, Umrah, Roza) made by a person who is connecting himself to Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala, can be destroyed the moment one speck of pride sets in and this connection (Muhabbat) with Allah breaks…

Pride is likened to an atom bomb that can destroy our possessions in a instant … Hence, when a person has pride in his heart then he has to remove this pride from his heart otherwise all the good deeds he has accumulated will all be destroyed!

What was the sin of shaytaan? … Pride! … I am better than Aadam … “Oh Allah! You created me from fire, you created him from sand … What’s better … Sand or fire? Why should I bow down to Aadam!” … So this was the pride! And what was the result and consequence … Allah expelled him from Jannah!

Innallaha ya’muru bil adli wal-ihsani wa-eeta-i-zil qurba wayanha ‘anil fahsha-i walmunkari walbagh- ya-i-zukum la’allakum tazzakkaroon
Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive admonition. (Surah An-Nahl 16:90)

An explanation of a verse from the Qur’aan Shareef with numerous examples of incidents between the Sahaba RA, which outline the laws pertaining to ‘Justice’ in Islam …

Every Friday (Yaum’ul Jum’muah) before the second Khuthbah terminates we hear this verse (above) being recited. Known as the most comprehensive verse of the Holy Qur’aan, it is condensed with all the teachings of Islam and Shariah. The laws of Islam and Shariah are so beautiful and full of Justice. Islam commands us to be just and fair. Our Nabi Sallallahu~Alaihi~Wasallam and the Sahaba RA were living examples of how to deal with people justly and how one should not be oppressive.

Allah is absolutely ‘Just’. One of His beautiful names is Al A’dl (The Just). Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala judges in the best of ways and in the most accurate way … He does not oppress ‘any’ person! Not even that amount which is equivalent to an atom! Allah is fair! Allah has made oppression Haraam upon believers. A person will be in hardship, misery and utter darkness on the day of Qiyamah because of Oppression. Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala, bids morals of high value and forbids those things which are immoral and low.

“We have to connect ourselves to Allah! Allah is there for us all the time! The rest of mankind may leave us … They may abandon us … They may forsake us … But Allah is not like that! … We have to have this conviction! We have to believe in this! And until we don’t believe in this, then Shaytaan will play games with us! He will make you feel low, spiritually low, lazy …”

___________________________

“When you say Allahu Akbar! What is the meaning of that? Allah is Great! There is nobody greater than Allah. We are talking to Allah! Do you think that, that Allah, who you are praising and calling out to is not going answer your Du’aas? Impossible! Allah answers our Du’aas … It’s a matter of time, conviction, dedication, loyalty, sincerity ….”

“You see a flock of sheep … And suddenly you see a wolf coming … What is the wolf going to do? … He is going to wait for just ‘one sheep’ to stray onto one side … And then it will attack the ‘one sheep’! As long as the sheep are all together, the wolf won’t take a chance! Like that, if we keep ourselves in ‘good company’, then we will be safe from Shaytaan …”

Upbringing of Children ~ Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB

September 13, 2012

…In the closing verses of Surah Furqaan, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has mentioned and awarded the title of  ‘Ibaad ur Rahmaan’ (True Slaves of Allah) to His honourable and favoured servants. There are ’12 Qualities’ displayed by these bondsmen which will indeed gain them unique honour in the Court of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala …

In a discussion, extracted from this series, Moulana emphasizes on the ‘Upbringing of Children’

Rabbana Hablana min azwaajina wadhurriy-yatina, Qurrata a’ayun wa-jalna lil-muttaqeena Imaama

O my Rabb! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous [25:74]

A child is one of the greatest asset of society (of any nation) … Therefore it is important that the upbringing (Tarbiyat) of the child must be done in an ‘excellent manner’ … If we want children to become leaders of society and the community, then we have to ensure that they are brought up in a manner which is pleasing to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. The Tarbiyat of the child does not begin ‘after’ it comes into the world. From the time it is in the womb of the mother the child is already being affected. Whatever affects the mother affects the child … A twig or a branch, (in it’s initial stage) is easy to twist and bend in any way we wish but as it becomes dry it is impossible to mould … Similarly, it is easier to influence the development of a child in its preliminary (infant) stages …

When a child is born, the first thing Shariah tells us to do is: “Give the Adhaan in the right ear and Iqaamah in the left ear”… You are already manifesting and teaching the child on the Greatness of Allah … He has come into this world through the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and has to obey Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala … We teach the child Tauheed (the Oneness of Allah) … We are already directing the attention of the child towards Salaah! … Adhaan and Iqaamah are given and thereafter what takes place? Salaah … After Adhaan and Iqaamah there is not much time before Salaah takes place … Similarly is our life in this world … We have come into this world … Adhaan and Iqaamah has been given and we are just waiting for our Janaazah Salaah to take place!

Parents have extremely great rights over their children … Jannah lies under the feet of the mother .The father also has great virtues and rights. The children are expected to give them their due but when the Tarbiyat is not made correctly and parents themselves are not ‘Role Models’ , then we are faced with challenges …Parents do not have Taqwa (piety), their lives are not simple and they do many things that are displeasing to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala … How is the child then going to inculcate good and noble habits and restrain himself from evil practices?

“A child’s mind is like a slate and whatever you are going to draw there is going to be etched into the child’s mind”

There is a manner of reprimanding the child that is disobedient and many a times we ‘Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child‘ . If they do not listen after that, we beat them up or we curse them! Is the coolness of the eyes waking up in the middle of the night to see your child performing Tahajjud Salaah or is the coolness of the eyes seeing your child battling in the Rehab or having an illicit affair? Showing and teaching children with love is very important! Most of us ‘abuse’, ‘threaten’ or ‘instill fear in the child’s heart’ and after the child has grown up, then we are trying to change the child’s condition … Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam showed so much of Muhabbat (love) for children. How often have we heard that he was in Sajda or Ruku, when his grandchildren jumped on his back! Whenever he would return from Safar he would give the little children a ride on his camel and then enter Medina Munawwarah. Whenever there was a first fruit of the season, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam would give it to the children and make them happy … He would never deceive or lie to a child … Why do we lie and make false promises to a child? If we promise a child something we are bound to fulfill that promise otherwise the child will lose confidence in the parent …

Some Rights of a Child

• The father should choose a (pious wife) good mother for the child

• The parents should choose a good name for the child

• The child should be taught Deeni Taalim (Qur’aan,Hadith etc)

Like a sponge that is immersed in water … A mind of a child takes in everything it sees and views … If the child’s mind is kept ‘pure’ with Salaah, Zikr, Tilawat, Ibadat and Du’aa then his Tarbiyat is being made correctly!

Lower your Gaze! ~ Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB

In the closing verses of Surah Furqaan, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has mentioned and awarded the title of  ‘Ibaad ur Rahmaan’ (True Slaves of Allah) to His honourable and favoured servants. There are ’12 Qualities’ displayed by these bondsmen which will indeed gain them unique honour in the Court of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala …

In a two part discussion, extracted from this series, Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB explains in depth on the ‘Effects and Harms of Zina’

Zina is an epidemic! … It is a plague! … It is a disease which is common today … Many people (to some degree), are suffering from this Bemari (sickness). We are living in such an environment, the moment we come out of the Musjid we are attracted towards Haraam … Go on to the computer we are attracted … Whilst driving there are huge billboards … Cellphones, we’ve got a problem!
A person who indulges in Zina (fornication), his life will be restless. He will be suffering a ‘turbulence in his heart’… All the time, he is afraid he must not get caught out! Sleep disappears, there is no enjoyment in his food, he is restless, he gains no concentration nor enjoyment in his Salaat … His mind is somewhere else … His gaze is somewhere else … His thoughts are somewhere else…
Allah takes away the sweetness of Imaan from his heart!
Allah takes away the sweetness of Ibadat from his heart!
Allah takes away the Noor from his face!
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has created man with Ishq (love) in our hearts. There is no exit for those lust, passions and desires if we try and adopt those paths and methods which are contrary to Shariah. Ishq (love) is a very valuable asset! Instead of using this love for illicit relationships and Haraam woman or men, we should channel it towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. This Ishq (love) is similar to petrol. The more petrol an aircraft has, the faster it will fly and the quicker it will reach its destination! … BUT the ‘Qiblah’ must be correct  …The direction must be right! … If the Qiblah is towards ‘Laila’ (illicit beloveds), we’re not going to get anywhere … The Qiblah has to be towards ‘Maula’ (Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) ……. If one ponders and reflects over the root cause of this Bemari (sickness), it is Badd’ Nazri (Casting Lustful Glances). When a person does not cast lustful glances, he will make ‘rapid spiritual progress’ and he will reach Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala very quickly!
….
When Shaytaan brings the sweetmeats of all these Haraam relationships … why do we accept it so readily?

It is mentioned in a Hadeeth-e-Qudsi : ” Casting lustful glances is a poisonous arrow of the arrows of Shaytaan. Whosoever abandons it, out of my fear, I will replace him with such an Imaan the sweetness of which he will enjoy in his heart”

Shaytaan wants to see you spiritually dead! This heart of yours which is enjoying the Noor of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, the Noor of Ibadat, Tilawat, Zikr, will become like a corpse! A dead body! Allah says, whoever restrains himself and does not become a victim of the poisonous arrow of Shaytaan … I will replace him with such Imaan … the ‘Sweetness’ of which he will enjoy!

Shaytaan will bring back the reels of the past

If a person is caught up in these illicit relationships, the first thing he should do is make sincere Taubah! … Pure genuine sincere Taubah (Taubah tun Nasooha) … Whoever wants to be forgiven must have a firm intention to leave these sins (feel Nadamat-Regret) and make a firm decision never to commit these sins again.… ‘Oh Allah, I am feeling ashamed of myself!’ … Turn to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala sincerely and cry over your sins …

Taubah is a conveyance that takes a person from the ‘Farsh’ (earth) to the ‘Arsh’ (throne) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala … Sins take a person far away from Allah … Taubah brings him close to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

‘Remedies of Zina’

• Make sincere Taubah and Istighfaar …
• Make the Zikr of Allah … when we say La ilaha illallah, we should remove from our hearts all the Haraam pictures, faces and relationships …
• Make Muraqabah … Meditate about Mauth (Death – The destroyer of Pleasures) …

Let us remember that all the beauty of this world will perish one day … but the beauty of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala remains …

Hadith-e-Jibra’eel ~ Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB

`Umar ibn Khattab (Allah be well pleased with him) said:

“As we were sitting one day before the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), a man suddenly appeared. He wore pure white clothes and his hair was dark black—yet there were no signs of travel on him, and none of us knew him.

He came and sat down in front of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), placing his knees against his, and his hands on his thighs. He said, “O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.”

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “Islam is to bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God; and to perform the prayer; pay Zakaat; fast Ramadan; and to perform Hajj to the House if you are able.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth,” and we were surprised that he asked and then confirmed the answer.

Then, he asked, “Tell me about belief (Imaan).”

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “It is to believe in Allah; His Angels; His Books; His Messengers; the Last Day; and in destiny—its good and bad.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth. Now, tell me about spiritual excellence (Ihsan).”

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “It is to serve Allah as though you behold Him; and if you don’t behold him, (know that) He surely sees you.”

“Now, tell me of the Last Hour,” asked the man.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “The one asked knows no more of it than the one asking.”

“Then tell me about its signs,” said the man.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “That slave women give birth to their mistresses; and that you see barefoot, unclothed, beginning shepherds competing in the construction of tall buildings.”

Then the visitor left, and I waited a long time. Then the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked me, “Do you know, Umar, who the questioner was?”

I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”He said (Allah bless him and give him peace), “It was Jibra’eel. He came to you to teach you your religion.” [Sahih Muslim]

Perfect your Salaah! ~ Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB

“A man came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me but make it concise.’ He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘(1) When you stand to pray, pray like a man bidding farewell. (2) Do not say anything for which you will have to apologize. (3) And give up hope for what other people have.’” [Sunan Ibn Majah]

In this two part discussion, Moulana Naeem Motala Saheb DB, expounds on “Three Golden Advices” mentioned in the above Hadith, narrated by Hazrat Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari RA

The Three Golden Advices >

• Perfecting our Salaah

• Controlling our Tongue

• Turning ones gaze away from the possessions of people towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

The Perfection of Salaah

Salaah is a means of asking and drawing from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala’s unlimited treasures! Although we perform our Salaah five times a day let us question ourselves as to how we perform our Salaah …

The ‘manner’ in which we perform our Salaah is something we should question ourselves about! The moment we say ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’, let us be honest to ourselves, we do so many things by means of our mind … We have planned out our holidays … We are busy offloading containers and marking goods in our shop … Sometimes we have sold so many goods and items … At times we are busy planning our meetings for the day … If we have had an argument at home, we are busy planning what subject matter we are going to present and how we are going to behave … We have not discarded and bid farewell to, everything and everybody, to our Dukaan (shop) and Makaan (house), to our leisures and pleasures … to every other thought except Allah!

Instead of focussing on Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala we become totally distracted and Ghaafil (unmindful) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala …

From the beginning (Allah-hu-Akbar) to the end (Salaam), we should be mindful of the fact that we are not standing before any human being … We are standing before our Creator, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala! The moment the Adhaan is given we should condition our minds and prepare for coming to Salaah. First and foremost with a proper and correct Whudu … Our thoughts should now be directed towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala … One should be completely intent and focussed to the fact that he is standing before Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and is going to be absorbed and consumed in this communication with Allah … It is as though, he is watching Allah and that Allah is watching him!

How to gain concentration in Salaah?

1. Bid farewell to everything besides Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala when commencing Salaah

 2. Our hearts and minds (not only our limbs) should be consumed in focussing on Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

 3. Reflect and ponder over the meanings of the Surah’s we are reading and then we will find enjoyment in Salaah

 …

Let us try and perfect our Salaah!
